Marc English is a seasoned mergers & acquisitions professional proficient in providing strategy,
insights and process leadership to help clients achieve their growth objectives through
acquisitions. Over the course of 25 years as the senior M&A executive at family-owned S.
C. Johnson & Son, Inc., he has completed close to 50 transactions across the globe,
ranging in size from less than $10 million to over $1 billion. Marc has led meaningful
expansions into diverse lines of consumer and institutional business, into higher growth
business sectors, and into new geographic markets. He has also managed the sale of
several non-strategic businesses. For ten years prior to forming Accretion Advisory Group in 2019, Marc led a C-level Deal
Board and, earlier in his career, he both executed early-stage venture investments in a family
office setting and also held operating roles with direct P&L responsibility. More recently, Accretion has assisted clients in the successful identification and prioritization of strategic expansion opportunities, in the search for specific targets and in advising clients in the diligence, pricing and structure of potential acquisitions.
Marc draws upon both operating and M&A experience in crafting acquisition strategies,
identifying and approaching targets, developing diligence insights, assessing value and
synergy potential, negotiating contracts and, importantly, coaching teams to successful
outcomes. He has a deep understanding of branded consumer-facing companies, honed
over three decades, and skills that translate across sectors. Marc offers prospective
clients an independent, pragmatic senior-level perspective with a focus on candor,
integrity and results -- along with an appreciation of the unique needs and concerns of
owners of closely-held businesses.
Marc earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Marquette University
and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Indiana University. He has been a
panelist at Northwestern University’s Mergers Week.
